BASILICA OF SAN DOMENICO

In the upper city there is one of the oldest basilicas in Arezzo: the Church of San Domenico. Just enter through its portal to find yourself walking in theMiddle Ages. Every detail speaks of the past. This 13th-century church, with its asymmetrical façade, bell gable and two 14th-century bells, can take us on a true journey through time. Just cross the threshold to admire its single nave, the majestic wooden truss ceiling and the frescoes inside. Here, in the dim light and silence of San Domenico where the first Conclave in the history of the Church was hosted, one of the masterpieces of 13th-century art history has rested undisturbed for almost 800 years: thePainted wooden crucifix by Cimabue.

It is difficult to take your eyes off this work: perhaps it is the shine of the gold, the purple cloth that shines and strikes the eye, or this representation of Christ that is so human and similar to us.
